About Project

Hi everyone!

You know how you get so wrapped up in a project, you might just forget about everything else???

Well, we've got a baby coming in a matter of weeks ... and we've been so busy finishing up the Momplex for Sewing Mom to move in, that we haven't had much time to focus on getting a nursery ready for the new baby moving in soon too.

There's a part of me that wants to save a few projects undone right here in our home, that I can work on when the baby is napping, so I haven't been too stressed if our little one isn't greeted by a fully finished nursery when he or she comes home. Winters are hard enough up here in Alaska, with the cold and dark - but add a newborn baby into the mix? I'm definitely going to need a few projects here and there to keep the baby blues away.

But one thing we absolutely knew we needed for the baby's room was a dedicated changing table, with storage.

I built this buffet (plans here) because I loved the rustic, reclaimed look, and wanted something a little less "changing table" looking for the baby room, but needed to add something on top to make it a little less buffet looking and more functional.

So I picked up a few 1x4s, and made a topper!

And my sister came over and stained it to match the buffet.

We sized the topper to fit a standard changing pad (16" x 32") and left enough room in a side compartment for diapering supplies.

It's a great feeling knowing this table is done!

And of course, I'm sharing the plans with you below.

Preparation

Please read through the entire plan and all comments before beginning this project. It is also advisable to review the Getting Started Section. Take all necessary precautions to build safely and smartly. Work on a clean level surface, free of imperfections or debris. Always use straight boards. Check for square after each step. Always predrill holes before attaching with screws. Use glue with finish nails for a stronger hold. Wipe excess glue off bare wood for stained projects, as dried glue will not take stain. Be safe, have fun, and ask for help if you need it. Good luck!

Instructions

Step 1

Measure your changing pad and adjust the plans as needed to fit your table and changing pad.

I started by attaching the two ends to the front and back. I used my Kreg Jig and hid pocket holes on the insides.

Step 2

Once I got the basic box done, I added the divider to fit my changing pad. It worked out perfect for wipes.

Step 3

You'll need to secure the topper to the cabinet somehow. I used a few pocket holes along the back but you could also use an L bracket - but you will need something to keep it from sliding off.

1 – Installez un meuble à chaussures

Le meuble à chaussures à l’avantage d’être un élément de rangement étroit qui peut aussi servir de console vide-poche. Si votre entrée est de type couloir, vous pouvez en aligner plusieurs afin de ranger les chaussures de toute la famille. Si votre meuble est équipé de poignées, pensez à les changer pour le personnaliser. Disposez un miroir en raphia et quelques jolies affiches encadrées au dessus du meuble pour compléter votre déco.

2 – Faites de vos patères un élément déco

Disposez des patères sur un mur en les décalant et accrochez-y votre collection de chapeaux ou de foulards. L’idée est de créer un effet visuel très déco. Choisissez des patères géométriques et colorées qui, même sans vêtements et accessoires, habillent votre mur.

3 – Envisagez le banc différemment

Le banc permet de se déchausser confortablement et de poser ses affaires. Choisissez un banc muni de rangement ou, si vous optez pour un modèle classique, utilisez l’espace sous l’assise pour y mettre des paniers où ranger chaussons, écharpes et gants. Si vous ne trouvez pas le banc de vos rêves, achetez-en un en bois brut et peignez-le dans une couleur assortie à votre déco.

4 – Fixez un portant de mur à mur

Dans un appartement ancien, si votre porte se situe sur le côté d’une entrée couloir, il y a généralement un espace vacant derrière la porte, lorsque celle-ci est ouverte. Posez-y une barre de portant pour y accrocher vos manteaux ou vos accessoires, selon l’espace disponible.

"Form Follows Function" lautet ein vor über 100 Jahren auf den Architekten Louis Sullivan zurückgehender Gestaltungsgrundsatz. Wenn man sich heute in Möbelhäusern umschaut, wird man den Eindruck jedoch nicht los, dass die Gestalter vieler Möbel davon noch nie gehört haben. Überladene, unproportionale Möbel-Monster buhlen um die Gunst der Käufer, sodass man sich fragt, ob all diese Menschen in Lofts wohnen oder aber außer dem einen Möbelstück keine weiteren benötigen.

Holzhocker selber bauen

Wir haben uns ein kleines, ganz einfaches Sitzmöbel vorgenommen: einen Hocker. Und dann haben wir uns den Menschen, der ihn besitzen soll angeschaut und festgestellt, dass das Sitzfleisch in der Regel – beim einen mehr, beim anderen weniger – rundlich ist. Damit auch lange Sitzungen komfortabel sind, sollte außerdem am Hinterteil frische Luft zirkulieren können. So sind wir auf einen Holzhocker mit Sitzmulde in Lamellenform gekommen. Ausgesprochen stabil wird er durch in Lagen verleimtes Sperrholz. Und da sich das bei diesem Aufbau geradezu aufdrängte, sind die Verbindungen höchst belastbar als Überblattung ausgeführt. Praxistipp: Ergonomische Hocker gibt es nicht viele. Neben unserem Holzhocker hier, sind praktische Noppenhocker, wie in dieser Anleitung, die Ausnahme. Die nachgebenden Noppen sorgen für einen ergonomischen Sitzkomfort, die kein gewöhnlicher Holzhocker bieten kann.

Holzhocker: Sitzmulde fräsen

Die Oberfräse ist ein außergewöhnlich vielseitiges Werkzeug – allerdings nicht in jeder Hobbywerkstatt vorhanden. Die Mulde in den Sitz-Lamellen des Holzhockers lässt sich jedoch sehr viel schneller und exakter mit einer Oberfräse, am besten in einem Frästisch herstellen. Voraussetzung für beide Varianten ist ein exaktes Musterstück, das als Schablone verwendet wird. Dieses stellen Sie wie beschrieben mit der Stichsäge her und schleifen es gleichmäßig rund. Mit einem Kopierfräser wird dann die Schablone abgefahren und der Rohling gefräst. Da die Auflagefläche der Lamellen recht klein ist, ist der Frästisch von Vorteil.
